Set up to Demo the Leather Wrap Bracelet..

Lacis Macrame Board with a Bead Mat Covering

Here is the set up I used to demo the leather wrap bracelet at Stitches this weekend. The Lacis macrame board has several slits at the end of board. They are perfect to hold the ends of the leather in place. I used T-pins to hold the loop in place and empty bead tubes to raise the leather off the bead mat for easy access.

Hey I am getting close... only a few more beads to add!

This looks like a fun bracelet to make. I love your work. We need to find a way to get you to San Antnio. I am interested in your different techniques for finishing the ends of the kumihimo

Your bracelets are beautiful. I have been making leather wrap bracelets about 6 months now and actually sold a few. Recently I had one get returned to me (from my cousin) because the leather was getting worn by the clasp. What it actually was is the color (black) cracking and the true leather color showing thru. Is there any way to prevent this or a better quality leather that wont crack like that?? Deana

I will check with a shoe repair store and get back to you as to color on the greek leather getting damaged.

Beautiful with the Tila beads! The very expensive designer wrap bracelets use actual crystals, and it looks like perhaps a silk thread. Do you have any thoughts on what thread is durable enough for crystals? I am longing to try them too, along with the Tilas!

Hi Marion,

I was wondering if you could help me concerning a leather wrap bracelet I made recently and sold to a friend. The leather on her bracelet has started to wear out, and she's had it for a very short time, from the button on the bracelet - mainly where it is attached and on the leather loop. What can I do about this without having to remake the bracelet? I did not buy the leather from you, but from a craft supply from etsy. If you have any ideas, please let me know ;) I've been referring to your site for advice on thread and find it very comprehensive and helpful. Thanks, Sara

Leather is a natural product. Before making a bracelet, it is best to check the leather quality. Greek leather is usually a bit better for thinner diameters such as 1.5mm. For 2mm diameters, most leather are strong enough. Leather quality varies depending its source. Not all Greek leather are equal in quality and the same is true for Indian leather or leather from China.

I purchased a wrap kit in Green Patina some time back. Is there a video for this or just the written instructions that came with the kit.

I am making my first leather wrap bracelet from a kit I purchased from you. Can you tell me how to wax the bead thread.?

Marion Hunziker-Larsen said...

Just run the thread against a cake of beeswax, once or twice. It easy an fast Wac=]x the very end a bit more to keep the thread from splitting.

Should you double the thread or use a single strand when using s-lon japan fine .25mm thread on a leather beaded wrap bracelet?
